Dear Dyslexia made its national debut on October 17th at a pop-up exhibit and press conference on Capitol Hill sponsored by Representative Julia Brownley (D-CA), co-chair of the House Dyslexia Caucus. Dear Dyslexia founder Gil Gershoni and Representative Larry Bucschon (R-IN) were among the speakers who highlighted the importance of changing perceptions of dyslexia from a disability to a hyper-ability. Coverage included The Hill (“Dear Dyslexia Project plastering Capitol with postcards with a message”) and Education Week (“Disability or ‘Superpower’? The Push to Change Mindsets About Students With Learning Differences”).

Actress Alyssa Milano, Olympic legend Greg Louganis, Captain Underpants children’s author Dav Pilkey, and Justice League director Zack Snyder are among the high-profile people with dyslexia who have contributed to a global art project that launched this week for Dyslexia Awareness Month. The brainchild of Dyslexic Designing Thinking founder Gil Gershoni, Dear Dyslexia aims to reframe perceptions of the learning difference by showcasing postcards created by more than one thousand people who have drawn or illustrated one word or phrase that encapsulates experience with dyslexia. California Governor Gavin Newsom, Twitter logo designer Martin Grasser, and British author Sally Gardner are among a diverse group of artists who have reinterpreted everything from books to words through the lens of their dyslexia for Dyslexic Dictionary, an exhibition in San Francisco executive produced by artist and Dyslexic Design Thinking founder Gil Gershoni.
