Designing Justice + Designing Spaces was featured in a Dwell piece examining the debate over New York City’s borough-based jail plan, highlighting how design can support care-centered alternatives for communities most impacted by the criminal legal system.
“Rather than continuing to invest in jails and prisons with programming or improved infrastructure, what if we designed sites for care that could anchor communities, actually prevent incarceration, and put real estate ownership into the hands of grassroots organizations?” said DJDS co-founder Deanna van Buren.
